When you take into account that there are over 7 billion people living on earth today, it is safe to say that you are not alone when it comes to halitosis (bad breath).
Although the condition may seem like just a personal incurable problem, for patients here at Andrew Baderski Dental in Ingleburn, we can help you narrow down the cause and assist you in finding the appropriate solution for your problem.

It’s more than just personal hygiene

Problems with bad breath left untreated may result eventually in self-esteem issues and even be eventual cause to feelings of embarrassment. When it comes to persistent bad breath, it is estimated that virtually 90% of the cases originate from oral health problems.

Some of the major causes have been linked to:

Built up plaque and tartar

Ok so yes, personal hygiene is considered to be one of the more major causes. When you skip out on your daily brushing and flossing routines, plaque and bacteria is left on the surface of your smile. Left on the teeth for too long, the plaque can harden. This is how tartar is formed.
It isn’t just making sure you brush twice daily and floss once a day either. It’s also about ensuring you are taking the time to do it properly. If you are rushing your routine you are likely missing the same areas each time. This means that there is still plaque and bacteria in the mouth to cause bad breath.

Gum disease

When plaque begins to accumulate along the gum lines and creeps into the cracks in between the teeth, gingivitis and symptoms of gum disease can begin to develop. Gingivitis and periodontal disease (gum disease) generally begin with similar symptoms and left untreated can easily be the cause of or bad breath.
Practicing healthy oral hygiene habits is the fundamental step to restoring balance to your oral health. If you think you may be a victim of gum disease, don’t hesitate to contact us at Andrew Baderski Dental today.

Tooth decay

When teeth become decayed, the mixture of bacteria and decay can create bad breath. To combat decay you may need a filling, inlay, onlay or crown. It is important to attend regular check-ups so we can assess and keep track of the health of your entire smile.

Dentures

Sometimes when patients wear dentures, bacteria and food debris can become trapped under the denture. This can be the cause of your bad breath.

Dry mouth

As a side effect for medication or even as a result of smoking, dry mouth can cause an increase of bacteria build-up and lead to bad breath.

Even the healthiest mouths could have bad breath
Ultimately the most persistent cause of bad breath is bacteria and even the healthiest mouths can suffer. Here are some ways you could reduce the occurrence of bad breath:

Attend regular check-ups

Using a dentist approved mouthwash

Brushing the tongue during your routine

Floss of an evening or whenever necessary

Brush twice a day for 2 minutes using a soft tooth brush

Chew sugar-free gum and drink water after eating and drinking

Consider purchasing a pro-biotic to boost the number of good bacteria in your body

Restore balance to your smile

Andrew Baderski Dental in Ingleburn we want to eliminate any feelings of anxiety when it comes to communicating with others.
Book a consultation with us today to restore balance to your oral health.

Here at our dental practice in Ingleburn we understand the importance of straight teeth both socially and physically.

Straight teeth are not just a symbol of beauty and cleanliness; they are also an effect of optimum jaw position and breathing properly. It may surprise you that the way you breathe can directly affect the appearance of your face when it comes to the position of your teeth and jaws. People who breathe through their mouth will generally have an overbite that can give the impression of looking disinterested or not engaged.

Before we look at why you should get orthodontics, let’s look at some of the underlying causes of crooked teeth.

How does breathing through your mouth cause crooked teeth?

When you breathe through your mouth and leave your jaw hanging open your tongue does not support the teeth in your upper jaw. This is how straight teeth maintain their symmetrical curve – the strength of your tongue pressing up against them. If you fail to position your tongue correctly then your teeth don’t have any support and may move over time. This is a common cause for crooked upper teeth in children who breathe through their mouth as a habit. This can even happen later in life (even if you’ve received orthodontics) and may require revision orthodontic treatment.

Crossbites can mean an underlying problem with your jaw

If you have a cross bite (the central lines of your teeth do not match up) then it is likely that you either clench your jaw incorrectly as a habit or you have something wrong with your jaw. It’s important that you visit a dentist that offers orthodontics or an orthodontist to diagnose and address this issue. In some cases arch expansion is required to broaden the jaw and enable more room for overcrowded teeth.

Other problems that can cause crooked teeth include:

Overcrowding (narrow jaws)

Development issues

Why should i get braces or orthodontics?

Orthodontics straightens your teeth so that your facial profile is improved and you can smile with straight teeth. Straight teeth are also easier to clean and therefore more hygienic and they do not affect the way you speak (crooked teeth can cause lisps).

One of the most important factors is that having a crooked bite for a long time can put pressure on your jaw in the wrong places. This can lead to problems like TMD (temporomandibular joint disorder) which is a condition which causes pain, headaches and problems with the function of your jaw joint. This can be expensive to treat and in some cases can require surgery to fix the problem.

Here at our Ingleburn dental practice we also believe that patients can feel better about themselves with an improved smile – as crooked teeth can cause a look of ‘gawkiness’ and straight teeth communicate professionalism.

If you are interested in finding out more about our orthodontic options to straighten teeth do not hesitate to contact us . Andrew Baderski Dental in Ingleburn is always happy to help patients achieve a straighter or improved smile.

Teeth and gum pain is an issue that plagues most of us at one point in our lives. Whether it be wisdom teeth pain, rotten teeth, gingivitis or another complication, pain is never fun. While in the modern era we have dentists and medication to subdue our pain and agony, have you ever thought about what humanity did before all of our technological advances? At Andrew Baderski Dental in Ingleburn we’re curious about all things teeth so we thought this would be a great chance to show you how far we’ve come in dental innovation!

China papered their pearly whites
China is often known for its strange and almost magical approach to health. From burning sage, to acupuncture there are always interesting traditions and practices to be found within China’s health therapies. In ancient China, people were said to wrap parchment around agonising teeth, and inscribe prayers begging the God’s to help relieve their pain.

Germany puckered up to banish tooth ache

In Germany there is an even stranger tradition to relieve tooth ache. The Hilda and Hans of olden day Germany would often travel to the barn to find a Donkey to kiss to stop their pain. This strange tradition is still referred to in German folklore today.

Ye olde toothpaste

Did you know that toothpaste was only invented 100 years ago! Believe it or not people used to chew honey tobacco and charcoal in place of toothpaste in the old days.

Anyone that’s had severe toothache before knows that there are different types of pain – whether it be throbbing or sharp. Andrew Baderski Dental is always concerned about the comfort of their patients, whether they’re at home or sitting in our chair at our practice in Ingleburn. We’ve decided to put together a little guide to tooth ache so that you can rest easy even when you’re not visiting us.

Types of dental pain

Short-term Sensitivity to Cold/Hot Food & Drink (medium sharp pain)

Cause: A nerve has been exposed. This occurrence could signify the origins of gum disease so ask your dentist about it next time you’re at Andrew Baderski Dental.

Constant Pain When Pressure is Applied (Possible throbbing pain)

Cause: An inflammation of the gum or tissue below the teeth. Book in at Andrew Baderski Dental if pain persists more than a couple of hours.

Tooth hurts when tapped (Sharp pain)

Cause : The ligament supporting the tooth is damaged. Book in to see a dentist today at Andrew Baderski Dental

As you can see there are a number of types of tooth pain and it’s almost torture to imagine having to deal with this pain before modern dental technology. For a little bit of perspective on how much dental technology has advanced, did you know that in ancient Greece, the “dentists” used to pull teeth with handmade pliers? Luckily you can now rest comfortably in one of our cushioned recliners at our dental practice in Ingleburn, feeling next to nothing. Not to mention you can leave happily without the need for paper or a donkey!

At Andrew Baderski Dental we’re passionate about advances in dental health. We encourage you to ask your dentist about our most innovative treatments because as you can see, the world is always changing! To find out more contact us today to arrange an appointment at Andrew Baderski Dental located in Ingleburn, NSW.

Andrew Baderski has a broad range of treatments so that you can receive a smile makeover from top to bottom.

Here at Andrew Baderski Dental Practice in Ingleburn, Sydney we are able to perform a holistic dental service to all of our patients. We have a huge range of cosmetic, restorative and orthodontic solutions to offer our patients so that every one of their dental needs are met by our passionate and dedicated practice. We can totally transform the look of your smile with a number of different treatments depending on your requirements or desires.

Begin with orthodontics to create a straight foundation for cosmetic enhancement

Orthodontic treatment has the power to correct imperfections in the straightness of your teeth as well as the position of your jaw. By receiving orthodontic treatment you can improve a crossbite, overbite or underbite and also improve your overall facial profile.

If you’re worried about your appearance while receiving orthodontic treatment speak to your dentist at Andrew Baderski Dental about alternatives to traditional braces. You should also know that orthodontic therapy is not limited to younger people, as 25% of orthodontic patients are actually adults, it’s never too late to get a straight smile!

A white smile is the most desirable trait according to patients

Having a white smile can make the world of difference to your personal and professional appearance. A white smile is synonymous with cosmetic beauty and also a healthy oral hygiene routine. Here at Andrew Baderski Dental we offer both in-house and take-home treatments to suit everybody’s preferences.

It is important to always entrust your dentist at Andrew Baderski Dental with your teeth whitening treatment as store-bought whitening solutions can be extremely damaging to the enamel (protective layer) around your teeth. With Andrew Baderski Dental you can take the next step towards a radiant and cosmetically pleasing smile.

Sculpt the gums that frame your teeth

Gum tissue can now be sculpted utilising advanced laser technology. Many people find their gummy smile gets in the way of their confidence, personal relationships and professional self-esteem. Here at our Ingleburn practice we use laser therapy to banish excess gum tissue. This therapy has the power to get rid of excess gum off of your teeth without leaving any signs such as stitches, excessively bleeding tissue or other unsightly symptoms. This means you can get the smile of your dreams without your friends being able to pinpoint exactly what has changed.

Conceal unsightly white flecks on the teeth with porcelain veneers or bonding

Porcelain veneers and bonding can be used to hide small discrepancies on the teeth. Porcelain veneers are a thin porcelain shell which completely covers the natural tooth. While bonding is a small amount of composite, tooth-coloured resin that will be applied to your tooth much like a painter paints a canvas.

Bonding is a popular option to hide signs of pigmentation on the teeth such as white flecks which are caused by an excessive fluoride intake during younger years. Veneers can be used to hide larger discolouration such as yellowing teeth due to loss of enamel and small cosmetic chips. If you have any concerns about your teeth you should consult with Dr Andrew Baderski so that he can suggest a treatment suited to your specific needs.

If you are interested in finding out more about the cosmetic services available at Andrew Baderski Dental please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Is your smile looking a little lacklustre? Perhaps they are a few shades too dull or maybe they are being overshadowed by your gums. Discolouration and overbearing gums are some of the common patient concerns at Andrew Baderski Dental. In retaliation against these treatable imperfections, Dr Andrew Baderski offers the residents in Ingleburn, New South Wales, cosmetic treatments that considerably enhance and rejuvenate their smiles.

What causes tooth discolouration?

There are two different types of tooth stains: Intrinsic stains and extrinsic stains.

Intrinsic stains are stains that physically affect the tooth’s enamel surface and structure. It can cause teeth to appear yellow or darker and will often show the underlying dentin below the enamels surface. These stains can be caused by fluoride over exposure, medications and long periods of insufficient oral hygiene, genetics, age, obesity and food staining substances left to fester on the teeth.

While extrinsic stains are easy to remove, the only way to get rid of intrinsic stains is to see a trained dental professional who will discuss the treatment options available to you. At Andrew Baderski Dental we offer effective tooth whitening treatments to lessen intrinsic stains and give our patients’ teeth several shades lighter.

Our tooth whitening treatments can improve the brightness of your teeth

Tooth Whitening is an effective cosmetic treatment whereby the intrinsic stains on the tooth’s enamel can be dissolved and lightened. The benefits of consulting a professional for tooth whitening treatments, above store bought treatments, are safety and proficiency. If you are going to invest money into rejuvenating your smile with a tooth whitening treatment, ensure it is dispensed by a trained professional who will have an interest in not only whitening your smile, but also ensuring the safety of your teeth. Yellow and grey teeth can be instantly whitened with our in-chair treatment or you can brighten your smile at your own leisure with our take home treatment.

Are my puffy gums an indication of gingivitis (gum disease)?

If your gums are hurting in any way, it is important to consult a professional. Sometimes our puffy gums are an indication that the gums are inflamed and hurting from bacteria irritating them while your mouth is closed. It is important to maintain a strict oral hygiene regimen to not only ensure that your teeth stay healthy, but also that the whole of your mouth does as well. However, in saying this, it is possible that if your gums are not suffering from swelling, pain, inflammation or bleeding, that the puffy appearance of your gums is genetic.

A gum lift might be the ticket for smoother gum lines

Gum lifts are designed for patients who feel self-conscious about their gummy smile and would like to make a change towards a more mature and reinvigorated smile. Gums are designed to protect the tooth and tooth roots and should not over shadow or burden the teeth. Our gum lift process utilises a dental laser which safely and efficiently removes the excess gum and seals the affected tissue in the process; this reduces the risk of blood and infection, and removes the need for stitches.

At Andrew Baderski dental we want you to leave our practice with a reason to smile

Our cosmetic treatments are designed to give patients affordable and realistic options for improving their smile with visible results. Tooth colour and gum encroachment are two of the most common problems experienced at our clinic. At Andrew Baderski Dental, in Ingleburn, we strive to ensure our patients obtain their aesthetic desires for their smiles, in order to feel a new sense of satisfaction and confidence.

Are you interested in one of our cosmetic treatments or would like to book an appointment ? You can contact us on 02 919 946 27.

Snoring is one of those annoying habits that are clearly misunderstood as not being a serious condition. Many people in their life time can experience sporadic or constant snoring habits depending on their health, circumstances and their wellbeing. Snoring is a disruptive condition that can not only keep your partner (and possibly the neighbours’ below, above or next door to you) but it also has serious repercussions for your own sleep and health. At Andrew Baderski Dental we understand how frustrating snoring can be and unfortunately those who suffer from it have no control over it which they are sleeping. But if you find that your partner or even yourself is snoring consistently each night it’s time to realise that these are not annoying habits that occur for no reason. Your snoring is a warning sign.

When you accidentally hurt yourself, your nerve endings will send painful signals from your brain telling you that something is wrong. If you snore at night; that is your body’s way of vocalising that something is obstructing your ability to breathe and that is indeed a problem.

Snoring occurs when the part of the throat called the pharynx, this is a cone-shaped passageway leading from the oral (mouth) and nasal (nose) cavities, the pharynx is part of the digestive and the respiratory system. It is made of thick muscle fibres and connective tissue and it is used to help the food make its way down the oesophagus (throat) and prevents air from being swallowed into the stomach chamber. The pharynx has the ability to distinguish between food and air and will divert either into the lungs or the stomach. When we snore, the noise that we hear (the gurgling or groaning sound) is caused when the air running through the pharynx passageway and makes the pharynx vibrate. The reason we recognise this vibration as noise is because the pharynx also functions to help resonate speech patterns.

At Andrew Baderski Dental we can help discover the reason why you are snoring and discuss the appropriate method of treatment.

Naturally, the pharynx is not meant to vibrate when we sleep and if you do suffer from snoring this could mean a couple of things:

The pharynx is too relaxed which is causing it to vibrate

The passageway is too narrow

Stress

Your neck might be putting pressure of your pharynx passageway

It might be allergy related symptoms

Damage to the pharynx from health conditions or harmful habits such as smoking

If snoring is a regular occurrence during your sleep it can play a significant role in determining the decent amount of sleep you and your partner receive each night. It is important for adults to receive between seven and nine hours of sleep each night (which equates to roughly three sleep cycles) so that your body can recuperate from a long day’s work. Snoring can cause sleeping obstructions and can inhibit you from going through your sleep cycles. Those who are not receiving sufficient sleep are often lethargic, irritable, suffer memory loss and have difficulty concentrating.

At Andrew Baderski Dental we can help our Ingleburn patients get a better night sleep by providing you with a night time appliance. A custom-made night time appliance allows you the opportunity to increase your chances of complete sleep cycles and reduces the chances of snoring.

Snoring can be an affliction that affects not just the individual who suffers with the problem, but also those people who live with and sleep next to them. Here at Dr Andrew Baderski’s dental practice in Ingleburn we are the bearer of good news for the millions who snore, as well as their long- suffering families.

Snoring is a serious problem that affects people irrespective of gender or age. However, with that said, the habit does tend to be more common in men than women as a result of the anatomical variation in the throat.

At Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice we can help discover the reason why you are snoring and discuss the appropriate method of treatment. While there are a variety of causes for sleep disorders, sleep apnoea is a common cause for snoring, related to the positioning of your jaw. There are a number of ways in which we can effectively treat the issue; however, one of the most effective methods to treat the condition can be achieved by a simple oral application that you can wear while you sleep.

Sleep in peace and comfort with a custom fitted night guard

At Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice we can provide you with a custom fit plastic splint worn in the mouth like a gumshield that can substantially reduce stop snoring for most people. A splint, or more commonly known as a night guard, can prevent the jaw from moving backwards during sleep. When this occurs, the sufferer may stop breathing for several seconds as the muscles in the soft palate, tongue and tonsils relax during sleep, closing the airways and making the heart work much harder.

We have effectively helped many of our patients which have provided positive results by significantly reducing and, even eliminating, snoring altogether— providing a lasting and permanent solution to our patients. Our oral appliances are comfortable, FDA approved, and easy to wear so that you can end your snoring problems and achieve a better night’s sleep.

You’ll be sleeping like a baby in no time

At your appointment here at Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice we will mould a custom-made splint to fit your mouth. This procedure is quick, pain free and in just one visit you will be on your way to a more peaceful sleep in no time. The splint slips over the upper teeth and keeps them from grinding your lower teeth. Wearing a night guard can also help:

Improve breathing and reducing snoring.

Ease aching in neck and shoulders.

Reduce headaches.

Reduce tension in jaw muscles.

Protect teeth and dental work from damage caused by clenching and grinding.

Treat a multitude of symptoms with the application of a night guard

While a splint can help reduce snoring it can also be applied to treat a variety of other health issues related to the mouth nose and throat. Firstly, it can be used to significantly reduce the symptoms associated with Bruxism, a condition in which the patient grinds their teeth and clenches there jaw, commonly caused by high levels of stress. With the application of a night guard we can help to remedy any or all of the following symptoms:

Morning headaches

Tight jaw muscles

Pain in the face

Painful jaw joints

Occasional mouth swelling

Not only can a night guard help to reduce bruxism, it can also help reduce symptoms associated with Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD). As TMD is commonly caused by Bruxism (clenching of the jaw or grinding of the teeth) wearing a night guard can help control muscle tension and reduce the pain.

Tooth sensitivity

Headaches

Aching jaw

Hearing Loss

Bruxism (grinding teeth during sleep)

Damaged and worn down teeth

Clicking or popping of your jaw

To find out more about how Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice in Ingleburn can help you sleep better at night, relax your jaw muscles and reduce teeth grinding please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Although a gummy smile does not affect the function and health of your mouth, it can make you feel self-conscious about your smile.

Here at Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice we understand the importance of a beautiful smile, which is why we provide a range of cosmetic solutions, in addition to restorative and general dentistry.

What causes a gummy smile?

There are a variety of reasons that may cause you to develop more gum than usual. This problem can be caused by hyperactive muscles, unusual jaw growth, abnormal tooth eruption, as well as many other factors.

What is a gum lift?

A gummy smile is simply where a patient has developed more gum than the average smile displays, and the result can be aesthetically unpleasing for the individual. Gum lifts exist as a means of rectifying this issue and can effectively raise the gum line. The severity of a gummy smile is determined by the gum to tooth ratio. There are three basic categories of a gummy smile:

Mild – Your gum tissue covers up to 25% of the length of your teeth.

Moderate – Your gum tissue covers between 25% and 50% of your teeth.

Advanced – Gum tissue encompasses 50% to 100% of your smile.

Tell me about the process… and the results

The process itself involves a dental laser which is used to remove the excess gum and seal the affected tissue as it progresses. This is done to help ensure the treatment is made as simple and untraumatic as possible, leaving no need for stitches or other invasive surgical methods. The procedure can be conducted in a way that is virtually pain free and allows for a greatly improved exposure of the natural teeth with less gum visible in your new, beautiful smile. Depending on your gum-to-tooth ratio, porcelain dental caps may be bonded to your visible teeth, which will correct your gum-to-tooth ratio. These caps can also improve the alignment and colouring of your teeth. Crowns, veneers, caps, and invisible braces are just a few examples of ways we can improve your smile.

Am I a suitable candidate for a gum lift?

You do not have to have a certain percentage of gum-to-tooth ratio in order to qualify for corrective treatments. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your teeth or smile, we are here to help you regain your confidence and correct your gummy smile. However, everyone’s smile and teeth are unique and different, and cosmetic or surgical treatment may not be ideal for every single individual with a gummy smile.

Your treatment options to fix your gummy smile will largely depend upon your tooth eruptions. During your consultation here at Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice we will conduct a full mouth examination to assess your gums and determine the most appropriate treatment.

Dr Andrew Baderski will walk you through the entire process during this consultation to ensure you are fully informed about the procedure and the expected outcomes to ensure your satisfaction.

For more information about how we can correct a gummy smile please do not hesitate to contact us.

Same day dental restorations will save you time

Do you avoid going to the dentist because you just don’t have the time?

Too busy with work and the kids?

For the past 30 years the Chair-side Economical Restoration of Esthetic (sic) Ceramics has allowed dentists to provide patients with same-day ceramic restorations.

This has meant that instead of a dental crown taking two weeks: it now takes two hours. Instead of having to deal with awkward, unpleasant temporaries you can get the permanent restoration right away.

Two weeks vs. two hours

For dentists who don’t use the CEREC technology a dental crown would take up to two weeks. First they would have to take an impression of your teeth. Then the tooth would be shaved down and a temporary tooth placed. The impression is taken to a lab and a week or so later you’re back at the dentist to have the temporary removed and the more permanent one bonded.

Not with the CEREC.

Why you want to visit a dentist who uses the CEREC machine

With the CEREC there’s:

no messy impression mould

no temporaries

no need to go back until your next check-up

Instead of a messy impression mould, the CEREC machine uses 3D imagery to take a digital impression of your teeth. Then when the model of the image is complete the milling machine creates the actual restoration out of a ceramic block. The milling machine cuts the block using a diamond cutter and then the restoration is bonded to the tooth.

At Andrew Baderski Dental in Ingleburn we offer a range of cosmetic dentistry treatments, including porcelain veneers, crowns, inlays and onlays.

Porcelain veneers are thin porcelain shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth

But only the teeth in the smile zone: the smile zone being the top and bottom six teeth (the teeth visible when you smile). Porcelain veneers are strong, stain-resistant and are great for concealing minor chips, cracks and imperfections.

With the CEREC machine, your teeth can be prepared and the porcelain veneers bonded to the front of your teeth in just one appointment. Depending on your smile, some patients choose to get both teeth whitening and veneers. This allows for a seamlessly white smile.

Keep in mind

Dental crowns and porcelain veneers are not permanent.

Dental crowns can last up 10-15 years if you look after your oral health, and don’t suffer any accident or injury. Porcelain veneers can last up to 8-10 years.

How well you look after your oral health is the biggest factor in the longevity of any dental restorations.

If you would like to know more about same-day restorations offered at Andrew Baderski Dental in Ingleburn, or to book an appointment, please contact us today.

People tend to shy away from root canal treatment because they think it’s going to be a frightening experience.

Come now, I’m sure we’ve all seen finding Nemo at some point in our lives and witnessed the scene at the dental practice where the patient undergoes a ‘root canal’ treatment. We love Nemo and his friends, but obviously along with fish-friendly sharks and pelicans, this violent-looking version of root canal treatment is not an accurate re-enactment of the treatment.

Here at Andrew Baderski Dental located in Ingleburn, we practice careful and gentle dentistry, offering payment plans and helpful advice for our patients. When it comes to root canal treatment, we want to assure you that you are in safe hands.

To make sure you are completely comfortable with your root canal treatment, read through the following article and allow Dr Baderski to walk you through the treatment; one bit of information at a time.

It starts with a tooth

Now what do you really know about your teeth? Before delving into the treatment, let’s take some time to get to know those pearly whites.

The 4 different parts that make up your teeth are:

#1 – Enamel

This is the part of the tooth we always hear about. The enamel is a thick protective layer that covers the fraction of tooth you can see. Although the enamel is one of the hardest substances in the body, because it’s the most exposed portion it’s also the most likely to be damaged.

#2 – Dentin

To defend the inner pulp of the tooth, there is a second protective layer known as dentin. This surrounds the nerves of the tooth and when the enamel has suffered damage and the dentin is exposed, this is usually when we feel excess sensitivity to hot and cold foods.

#3 – Dental Pulp

This part of the tooth is full of nerves and minerals which send out the messages of sensitivity to the rest of the tooth. The dental pulp is located within the roots of the tooth, below the surface of the enamel and dentin. The pulp pumps the nutrients into the dentin to strengthen it, keeping your tooth nice and healthy.

#4 – Cementum

The cementum is the part of your tooth that hides beneath the gums. It acts like a type of glue to secure your tooth and place and stop it from coming loose in your mouth.

Understanding your teeth is a fundamental step to understanding your root canal treatment. Knowledge is power and here at Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice we want to make sure all our patients are comfortable and enlightened before they undergo any of our treatments.

Why is the treatment necessary?

Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp inside the tooth becomes infected. As the pulp dies it becomes contaminated with an excess of bacteria and causes you pain.

Generally patients suffer from swelling in the gums, soreness, aching and could even be an on-and-off pain in the same tooth. Sometimes you might not know your tooth is infected because your body’s natural antivirus systems are working hard to fight it.

This is where early detection is key! Make sure you are coming in to Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice for regular check-ups every 6 months, this way you’ll be able to prevent excess damage. Because, left untreated, root canal problems can lead to abscesses and a handful of other nasty issues.

How is the treatment carried out?

Now that you know your teeth and why the treatment is necessary, let us explain the treatment in 3 easy steps:

After administering a local aesthetic to numb the area, our dentist would wrap the tooth in a rubber material and the affected parts of the tooth would be removed.

Using very small files, the infected pulp would be extracted from the root canal and thorough cleaning and disinfecting would be needed to get rid of any remaining bacteria. After this the canal would be dried.

Using a rubber-like substance called gutta-percha to prevent any further bacterial infection, the tooth would be sealed.

Occasionally patients may need to split their treatment into two sittings where the root canal will be medicated and temporarily sealed in between and in cases, because due to a lack of stability, the tooth may need a crown to reinforce and restore it. One of our fantastic professionals here at Dr Andrew Baderski’s Dental Practice will fully explain all elements of the treatment in your visit to our practice.
